The deputy first secretary and spokesperson of the PSC, Lluïsa Moret, has responded to the statements of the leader of ERC, Oriol Junqueras, about the reception of migrant people, and has asked him not to be dragged by the "temptations" of the right and the far-right in matters of immigration.
In a press conference held this Monday, Moret emphasized that "We cannot fall, from my point of view obviously, into the temptations that other political forces of the right and far-right put on the table. What the PSC is not going to do is that. However, listening to everyone and valuing the words of Mr. Oriol Junqueras, of course."
The socialist leader has acknowledged that immigration is a particularly complex and sensitive issue, and has stressed the need to advance in policies of social cohesion, integration, and reception. In this sense, she has defended the importance of "enhancing arrival through legal channels" and, at the same time, guaranteeing the protection of human rights.
The situation in Ceuta
In relation to what is happening in Ceuta, Moret has insisted on the difficulty of the scenario and has considered that many of the decisions adopted by the Government have been made "in an absolutely strained social context and deliberately provoked by the attitude and behaviors of the opposition."
As she has denounced, "Unfortunately, the opposition has been portrayed, which at no time has had a willingness to help, support, but rather the opposite, to throw more fuel on the fire, and in some way reinforce the situations of confrontation." In her opinion, this attitude has contributed to aggravating the political and social tension surrounding migration management.
