About 45,000 people have participated in the independence demonstration held in Barcelona and called by the Assemblea Nacional Catalana (ANC), Òmnium Cultural, the Consell de la República (CdRep), the Associació de Municipis per la Independència (AMI), the Intersindical-CSC, Ciemen, and the CDR, according to data from the Guàrdia Urbana.
The march in the Catalan capital has been organized into two large columns, one that has departed from Gran Via and another from the Cathedral of Barcelona. Both started at 5:14 PM, in reference to September 11, 1714, and have advanced until converging at Plaça de Catalunya, the final point of the route and the stage for the unitary act.
A block of international entities has also participated in the protest, made up of organizations and collectives from other countries. Throughout the route, slogans such as "In, inde, independence"; "Els carrers seran sempre nostres"; "Visca Catalunya Lliure", and "1 d'octubre, ni oblit ni perdó" have been heard.
