Twelve migrants of Moroccan nationality have been detained during the early hours of this Thursday in Ceuta for their alleged participation in an assault against four soldiers in the Benzú area. Between 30 and 40 people are believed to have participated in the attack, throwing large stones at the troops and the vehicle in which they were traveling.

According to sources from the Superior Police Headquarters to Europa Press, the events occurred around 5:30 a.m., when the military were heading towards a surveillance point established in Benzú. Upon arriving in the area, several individuals emerged from different points and surrounded the vehicle.
The group then began to throw stones at the car, which suffered considerable damage. In light of the intensity of the attack, the four military personnel abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot to try to reach safety.

The aggression did not end when the personnel abandoned the vehicle. The military were pursued towards Calamocarro while continuing to receive impacts from stones, according to police sources.
The four personnel suffered injuries and bruises during the attack. In the midst of their escape, they managed to contact emergency services via phone 112.
The alert allowed for the activation of a device in which personnel from the National Police and the Civil Guard participated. When the first patrols arrived at the scene, the alleged aggressors fled towards Benzú.

The security forces then deployed an operation to locate the individuals who had allegedly participated in the aggression. The search initially ended with twelve detained, all of them of Moroccan nationality.
Some of those involved attempted to escape by jumping into the sea, which led the Maritime Service of the Civil Guard to maintain search operations in the area.
The number of arrests is lower than the number of individuals who, according to initial information, would have participated in the events. The investigation remains open to identify and locate the rest of the alleged participants.
The four military personnel needed medical assistance
After the attack, the four Army members were transferred to a healthcare center to receive medical attention for the injuries sustained.
