The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food expands this autumn its free training program to promote the adoption of new technologies in the agri-food sector, with a series of courses and activities focused on artificial intelligence (AI), use of drones, precision agriculture, robotics, and digital tools adapted to different productive areas.
The new offer groups 17 training and demonstrative actions from the Center of Competences for Digital Agri-food Training, to which are added the courses and webinars from La Vega Innova and the Observatory for the Digitalization of the Spanish Agri-food Sector.
These initiatives are aimed at professionals in the agri-food sector and combine online sessions with in-person demonstrations to showcase technologies that can already be integrated into agricultural and livestock operations, as well as in the agri-food industry.
Intensive courses, short trainings, and field demonstrations
The Center of Competences for Digital Agri-food Training has designed 17 proposals for the second semester, including 24-hour courses, short trainings, and demonstration days. In the first six months of the year, it developed another nine activities, in which 569 participants from the 17 autonomous communities enrolled.
The autumn program includes training on drones applied to precision agriculture, remote sensing, precision livestock farming, application of phytosanitary products with drones, agricultural robotics, and deficit irrigation in fruit trees. In addition, in-person demonstrations will be held on hyperspectral imaging in vineyards and technologies to measure variability in the field.
In the 2026 programming, eleven Spanish universities collaborate, responsible for delivering the courses and activities in different locations across the country. La Vega Innova, the ministry's digital innovation node, will deliver a course on intelligent agents for decision-making in the agri-food sector on September 23, 24, 29, and 30.
This training will allow knowledge of applications of generative AI to work with information from the operations, such as field notebooks, phytosanitary regulations, or machinery manuals. In October, a specific training on FertiliCalc is planned, a tool that calculates fertilization needs based on the crop, soil, and climate.
The agenda of La Vega Innova also includes webinars on virtual reality applied to agri-food training and digital vaccination for livestock. In turn, the Observatory for the Digitalization of the Spanish Agri-food Sector will organize four online seminars dedicated to digitalization in horticulture, pork, fruit growing, and the agri-food industry between September and December.
