The Minister of Energy of Chile, Ximena Rincón, and the CEO of Grenergy, David Ruiz de Andrés, have signed a declaration of intentions to launch the Luz Antofagasta Project, an initiative aimed at improving access to energy in vulnerable homes in the Antofagasta region.
According to the company, the program aims to install photovoltaic self-consumption solutions in homes that are currently not connected to the conventional electrical grid, with special attention to the communes of Tocopilla and Calama.
The understanding contemplates that Grenergy will assume the financing of a first stage, based on a pilot project and a feasibility study that will allow for the next steps to be defined. The scope of future phases and the number of families that will benefit will be determined based on that technical diagnosis and the public-private collaboration model that is ultimately adopted.
The project aims to integrate the capabilities of the Ministry of Energy of Chile, the Energy Sustainability Agency (AgenciaSE), and other public bodies both national and regional, in order to facilitate the deployment and consolidation of Luz Antofagasta.
"We are very excited about this initiative because it reflects our commitment to an energy transition that has a positive impact on people and communities. When the public and private sectors work with a common goal, the reach can be much greater," said Ruiz de Andrés.
"When the president [José Antonio Kast] asks us to solve the problems of people in the country, this is precisely a first step in that direction. It is not just about advancing in regulatory matters or catching up with the debts that existed, but also about being able to deliver concrete solutions to people, to people with faces," indicated Rincón, for her part.
