Telefónica has been recognized by CDP as a case study in its international report "Disclosure Dividend 2026," a document that evaluates the degree of environmental transparency and the management of climate risks by companies.
The organization has taken the operator as a reference to show how the adoption of renewable energies allows for cutting the energy bill and, simultaneously, opening new business avenues.
These initiatives are integrated into Telefónica's Renewable Energy Program, included in its Sustainability Plan, where priority is given to long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) in order to have emission-free electricity and achieve economic savings.
Through these contracts, along with self-generation and energy traceability certificates, Telefónica manages to ensure 100% coverage of renewable electricity in its most relevant markets.
The Global Director of Sustainability at Telefónica, Maya Ormazabal, has stated in remarks to Europa Press that "the inclusion of Telefónica as a case study in the report 'Disclosure Dividend 2026' highlights that ambitious, rigorous, and effective environmental management can help strengthen resilience and business competitiveness while also helping to address climate challenges."
"CDP highlights in its report the ability of companies to turn environmental action into a strategic advantage, and that is the path we are following at Telefónica to achieve our goal of net zero emissions by 2040 across the entire value chain," she added.
CDP is a non-profit organization that coordinates the main global environmental disclosure system for companies, cities, states, and regions.
RENEWABLE ELECTRICITY AND EMISSIONS
Telefónica has indicated that in 2025, 93% of the electricity consumed in its own facilities came from renewable sources and that its scope 2 emissions were reduced by 98% compared to 2015.
The company has set itself the goal of achieving 100% renewable electricity consumption in all its operations by 2030 and emphasizes that its roadmap helps limit exposure to the volatility of electricity and carbon prices, in addition to accelerating the decarbonization of its activities.
At the same time, the company emphasizes that this approach reduces dependence on energy sources more vulnerable to extreme phenomena and reinforces service continuity in the context of the transition to a low-carbon economy.
Telefónica's decarbonization strategy encompasses energy efficiency measures, the application of environmental criteria in the selection and management of suppliers, and the promotion of digital solutions that allow other organizations to advance in their own sustainability goals.
Telefónica has been part of the "A list" of CDP for twelve consecutive years and extends its decarbonization strategy to its entire value chain through collaboration with its main suppliers.
