The apparent contradiction is explained by the difference between two calendars. The labor calendar determines the holidays that correspond in each territory. The stock market calendar sets when trading can take place in the markets that BME operates. That it is a bridge day in the city where the Madrid Stock Exchange is located does not interrupt share trading.
What happens if you send an order before nine
Between 8:30 and 9:00 the opening auction takes place. It is the phase in which the orders that will be used to determine the first price of the session are gathered. Therefore, the fact that an application allows an order to be entered at 8:45 does not mean that the buying and selling has already been executed. From 9:00 continuous trading begins.
In the afternoon there is also a useful distinction. At 17:30 continuous trading ends and the closing auction begins, scheduled until 17:35. After that, BME provides for a trading phase at the last price until 17:45. These are the hours of the continuous stock market; other products have their own time slots.
When the Stock Exchange will close again for a holiday
The next full closure planned in the BME calendar is Friday, December 25, Christmas Day. There are also two sessions that will end earlier than usual: both Thursday, December 24 and Thursday, December 31, the market will remain open until 14:00. For anyone checking their portfolio today from Madrid, the reference remains that of an ordinary Monday.
