ftalks Food Summit LATAM, a reference forum on the future of food driven by the Spanish 'hub' KM Zero, has celebrated its fifth edition in Mexico City, where more than 22,000 attendees gathered, including executives from large companies in the food sector and 60 'startups' linked to the agricultural field.
According to KM Zero in a press release, the meeting focused on some of the major trends that are redefining the international agenda of the industry, from the application of AI to agro-industry to precision nutrition, longevity, or the effect that the expansion of GLP-1 medications is having.
The event featured a program with presentations, round tables, workshops, and business networking spaces in which large corporations such as Grupo Bimbo, Sigma, Grupo Arancia, FEMSA, Tetra Pak, Kraft-Heinz, or Walmart, among others, participated.
In parallel, the ftalks LATAM Startup Awards distinguished the Spanish Modoru Biotech as the most innovative 'startup' and the Uruguayan metaBIX Biotech as the most sustainable, selected from 14 finalists, of which four were Spanish.
These companies were able to present their proposals to executives from large agri-food groups, sector specialists, and specialized investment funds, including Grupo Bimbo, Sigma, and Grupo Arancia. Additionally, at the Future Market, with 46 'startups' from 10 countries, demos and tastings of innovative solutions were showcased.
"At KM Zero, we have been committed for five years to holding a double edition of ftalks in Valencia and Mexico City to create meeting points on both sides of the Atlantic, promote synergies between corporations, 'startups', and investors, and accelerate solutions that strengthen the competitiveness of the sector, as well as food security and people's health," stated the community and large events director of KM Zero Food Innovation Hub, Catalina Valencia.
The program included a specific block dedicated to the relationship between Spain and Latin America, with the participation of the CEO of Familia Martínez, Raúl Martín; the director of the Subregional Office for Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central America of Segib, Héctor Dada; the president of AMEXIGAPA, Iker Jiménez; and the economic and commercial counselor of the Embassy of Spain in Mexico, María Peña.
The event has been sponsored by ICEX and Valencia Innovation Capital, as well as with the institutional support of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food of Spain.
The activities of ftalks Food Summit LATAM began on September 29 at Deloitte University and continued on September 30 and October 1 within the framework of The Food Tech Summit & Expo, considered the largest food innovation fair in Latin America and with which KM Zero has collaborated since 2024.
