The Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, visited this Thursday the Center for Port and Coastal Studies (Cepyc), part of the Public Works Experimentation Center (Cedex), with the aim of closely understanding the main research, experimentation, and simulation work being developed in the maritime field.
During the visit, conducted alongside the directors of Cedex and Cepyc, Áurea Perucho and Ana Lloret, Puente toured the facilities of this center, dependent on the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, where advanced modeling systems are used to scale reproduce the behavior of different port infrastructures.
As the head of the Department has been able to verify, this research allows for the assessment of various risk scenarios, studying navigation under different environmental conditions, and providing key data for the design and improvement of coastal infrastructures.
During the tour, physical models were shown that analyze the response of ships to wave action and other factors inherent to the maritime environment.
Similarly, simulations were presented that recreate navigation maneuvers in ports, useful for evaluating the safety and functionality of berths, as well as for defining and optimizing access channels to port facilities.
