At least two medical professionals assigned in Ceuta, whose specialty has not been disclosed, have requested their transfer to other destinations within the healthcare system after feeling "overwhelmed by the amount of work" following the migratory crisis that the city is experiencing, according to representatives of medical unions who have indicated to Europa Press.
These unions detail that the pressure on healthcare is not only reflected in the requests for changes of destination but also in an increase in professionals who have begun to suffer episodes of anxiety since July 31, the date on which the massive entry of migrant people from Morocco occurred.
"Aside from the fact that our work is already stressful, we now find ourselves in a situation like this, where we are doubling shifts and, on top of that, the logical concern we have after the invasion due to what is happening in our city," they explain, emphasizing that the combination of workload overload and social tension is taking a toll on the staff.
For its part, the Territorial Directorate of INGESA acknowledges the seriousness of the situation, although it reminds that the Emergency service has been reinforced with the incorporation of five new professionals to try to alleviate the pressure in frontline care.
Additionally, they point out that "two days a week have been set aside to address psychosocial problems arising from the crisis" with the aim of providing specific support to both the staff and the general population.
"One will be for INGESA professionals, regardless of their role, and another for citizens who believe they may need those services," they add. Specifically, "for those who have nothing to do professionally with INGESA, they will have to process it through their family doctor"; the service "will have no cost or time limit," they conclude.
