The deputy secretary of Economy of the PP, Alberto Nadal, warned this Friday that the purchasing power of households "is sinking" after the latest data of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) was released, which, according to the INE, reached 4.3% year-on-year in August, its highest record since February 2023.
According to the National Institute of Statistics, this rise in inflation is explained by the increase in fuel prices and the upward trend in the cost of food. Nadal, in a message shared on the social network X, emphasized that, in light of these figures, "prices are skyrocketing."
Immediately afterwards, he highlighted the discrepancy between the Government's narrative about economic growth and the situation that Spanish families face in their day-to-day lives.
Specifically, he pointed out that, while "prices are skyrocketing" and "the purchasing power of families is sinking," the Executive "is withdrawing aid and raising taxes," which, in his opinion, worsens the impact of inflation and the reduction of citizens' purchasing capacity.
The 'popular' leader has thus questioned the Government's discourse on the behavior of the Spanish economy, reproaching that, in a context of rising inflation, the president, Pedro Sánchez, went so far as to claim that "Spain is going like a rocket."
