The Council of Ministers has given the green light for Adif to tender the drafting of the projects for the high-speed connection Madrid-Extremadura in the section that runs between Talavera de la Reina (Toledo) and Talayuela (Cáceres), for an amount of 14.7 million euros (excluding VAT).
This route, of 46 kilometers, will link with the section currently under construction between Plasencia (Cáceres) and Talayuela, which in turn connects with the section between Plasencia and Badajoz, in service since 2022. In this phase of projects, both the new railway platform and a newly constructed station in the Toledo municipality of Oropesa will be defined.
The contract is structured into four lots. The first covers the sub-section Talavera de la Reina-Calera and Chozas, of 12.6 kilometers, with an estimated budget of 4.2 million euros.
The second lot includes the sub-section Calera and Chozas-Oropesa Station, of 12.5 kilometers and 3.6 million euros; the third focuses on the new station of Oropesa and its surroundings, of 7.5 kilometers and 3.8 million euros; and the fourth includes the sub-section between Oropesa station and Talayuela, of 13.2 kilometers and 3.1 million euros.
In the first lot, eight viaducts are projected, with a combined length close to 650 meters, including the crossing over the A-5. The second lot incorporates three viaducts that reach about 320 meters in total, including a pergola over the A-5.
In the third lot, in addition to the new station of Oropesa and the provisional solutions to ensure the continuity of railway service during the works, the design of a viaduct of about 150 meters is contemplated. The fourth lot foresees two shorter viaducts.
Drafting of projects and administrative progress
The section Talavera de la Reina-Talayuela corresponds to sections III and IV of the Informative Study of the High-Speed Line Madrid-Extremadura for the route between Madrid and Oropesa.
The administrative processing of these sections is the most advanced within the Informative Study, as they have surpassed the public information period and the phase of allegations, and are in the process of obtaining the mandatory Environmental Impact Declaration (DIA).
With the authorization of this contract, Adif will be able to begin drafting the construction projects, which will allow reducing the development timelines of the LAV route between Madrid and Oropesa.
At the same time, the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility continues with the processing of the pending sections of the LAV Madrid-Extremadura between Talavera de la Reina and Madrid, corresponding to sections I and II of the Informative Study.
These interventions align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) number 9, aimed at promoting reliable, sustainable, and quality infrastructure, and number 8, related to economic growth and job creation. The project may receive co-financing from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
