FACUA-Consumers in Action has communicated this Wednesday the withdrawal from the market of special glasses for observing the solar eclipse from the brand Mó, marketed by Multiópticas. This product is added to the previous order that banned the sale of six other models, after consumer organizations confirmed that their use involves a risk of eye injuries.

The glasses from the brand Mó of Multiópticas involved belong to batch 0326, model 2508-RS003. The General Directorate of Benefits, Pharmacy and Consumption of the Balearic Government included them this Tuesday in the alert network for dangerous non-food products, coordinated by the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumption and Agenda 2030, with the consequent prohibition of their marketing and the immobilization of all detected units.

According to FACUA, the problem with these glasses lies in the fact that the filter is too dark, so the user only perceives complete darkness and cannot identify the position of the sun. This circumstance can cause the user to slide the glasses up to their forehead, tilt them, or take them off for a few moments, generating a period without protection in which the eyes are directly exposed to solar radiation and could cause a chemical or thermal injury to the foveal cells of the retina.

The models of glasses for which a withdrawal order had already been issued previously are those of the brand Lionstar, model LSP1; brand ECP Eye Care Professional; brand Pelispan; brand Homanaje, model QW-50Z1; brand Orro, model O37-R, batch 2603-01 and manufacturing date 2026-03; and brand Opticalia.

The organization has warned that the anomalies detected in these seven models of glasses could be repeated in many other products that have been sold or distributed for free in recent months.
