The Minister of Health, Mónica García, has requested to appear before the Congress of Deputies on August 27 to inform about the health situation in Ceuta after the migratory crisis registered on July 30.

Sources from the Ministry have indicated that this Monday the request for appearance has been formalized in the Health Commission of the Lower House, after the Popular Party demanded the presence of the minister in Congress to detail the measures implemented and justify her absence during the last 16 days.

In this line, the 'popular' have requested to convene the Permanent Deputation of Congress --the only body that remains operational outside of ordinary session periods-- with the aim of authorizing an extraordinary session of the Health Commission in which the minister offers explanations about the "collapse" of the health system that, they claim, the autonomous city is suffering.

The minister has maintained that the central Government has indeed been present in Ceuta during the migratory crisis, thus responding to the president of the autonomous city, Juan Vivas, who had criticized the "passivity" of the Executive and demanded to "analyze and investigate" the possible responsibilities of Morocco in the origin of the crisis.

Furthermore, this Sunday the Minister of Health rejected that Ceuta is in a situation of "health collapse," although she acknowledged the existence of "especially tense" areas, and specified that 5,800 migrants have been attended to in the autonomous city since the beginning of the migratory episode.
