The PP and Vox have urged the citizens of the Balearic Islands to participate in the gatherings called in different municipalities due to the situation in Ceuta. In contrast, PSIB, MÉS per Mallorca, Més per Menorca, and Unidas Podemos argue that these are "instrumentalized" mobilizations by the PP through the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP).
The parties have set their position in the press conferences following the Board of Spokespersons, regarding the protests planned for this Wednesday in front of the town halls. Most parties have taken the opportunity to question the management that the central Government is making of this migratory crisis, with the only exception of PSIB.
The spokesperson for the PP in the Parliament, Sebastià Sagreras, has defined the arrival of migrants in Ceuta last July as "invasion," resulting, in his opinion, from the "inoperability, lack of foresight and reaction" of the central Executive. He has also demanded clarification on whether the Government has maintained any kind of collusion with Morocco.
In this line, he emphasized that the concentration this afternoon aims to show that "Ceuta is not alone" and to warn that this situation "could happen in the Balearic Islands," considering that there is already a "consolidated" migratory route from northern Algeria to the Balearic archipelago.
For his part, the deputy spokesperson for the PSIB, Marc Pons, has criticized that the PP has decided to "unilaterally" promote these protests from the FEMP, an organization that, he stated, has become "an instrument for its interests."
In this context, he emphasized that the two main neighborhood associations of the autonomous city have chosen not to join the demonstrations because "they do not want to be politicized to play into the hands of the PP."
