At least one crew member has lost their life and three others remain missing after a merchant ship sank in the Black Sea, off the coast of Romania. The country's authorities are investigating whether the incident could be related to a drone attack, although for now there is no official confirmation.
The ship "Joriv," flying the flag of Comoros, was sailing about 13 nautical miles off the coast of Constanța, in eastern Romania, when the sinking occurred. Several rescue vessels have been dispatched to the area to assist survivors and try to locate the missing.
According to the Romanian Naval Authority, at the time of the incident, thirteen sailors were on board: ten of Ukrainian nationality and three Azerbaijani. The exact causes of the sinking have not yet been determined, and it has not been possible to establish authorship in the event that a deliberate attack is confirmed.
The freighter was on the route between the Turkish port of Eregli and the Romanian locality of Sulina, where it was scheduled to arrive this Tuesday. The first data collected by emergency services indicate that at least ten crew members may have been injured in the incident.
