At least three people have lost their lives and another eight have been injured in an attack attributed to the Armed Forces of Ukraine against a civilian facility in the Russian city of Oryol, according to local authorities on Saturday.
The governor of the region, Andrei Klichkov, explained that the offensive occurred between Friday night and Saturday morning and that "missiles manufactured in NATO countries" would have been used, according to a message disseminated and reported by the Russian agency Interfax.
Klichkov indicated "with deep sorrow" that the remains of the three fatalities were found during the debris removal efforts, while expressing his condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased.
The attack impacted a plant located in the Sovetski district and caused a fire that, according to the governor himself, has already been completely extinguished. Despite this, emergency services remain deployed in the area to assess the extent of the damage and complete recovery tasks, while authorities insist that all necessary measures are being taken to assist the injured and mitigate the consequences of the bombing.
Meanwhile, the Russian Ministry of Defense stated early in the morning that its air defense systems have "intercepted and destroyed" up to 616 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones between 8:00 PM (local time) on Friday, October 23, and 8:00 AM on Saturday. These devices would have been shot down over several Russian regions, including Moscow, as well as in the republics of Crimea and Tatarstan and in the waters of the Black and Azov seas.
