The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations Center (UKMTO, for its acronym in English) communicated on the night of this Thursday an "attack" with projectiles directed against two ships in waters off Oman, in a context of growing military tension between the United States and Iran in the Strait of Hormuz.

The agency, which depends on the British Navy, has indicated on its social media profiles that it has information about two vessels affected by an "incident four nautical miles (seven kilometers) west of Jasab (Oman)."

"The captain of the vessel reports that he has seen how four unknown projectiles impacted against two unknown ships, causing a fire on one of them; he is unaware of the situation of the second ship, located six nautical miles (eleven kilometers) north of his position," the agency added, before indicating that the authorities are already investigating what happened.

The episode is framed in the current military escalation in the area, although UKMTO has not reported so far the existence of casualties or additional damages after this incident and has asked sailors to report any "suspicious" activity.
