The Government of Canada announced this Friday the adoption of "additional" sanctions against five people related to the authorities of Iran, including members of the Revolutionary Guard, due to their "threats" to the security of maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.
In an official note, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained that the sanctioned individuals are "high officials of the Islamic Republic," some belonging to the Revolutionary Guard, without providing more detailed information about their identities or specific positions.
The department emphasized that these restrictions respond to "their activities that have threatened a crucial international maritime route and have obstructed navigation rights in the Strait of Hormuz and its surroundings, against International Law."
"These measures add to the efforts of allies and partners to counter Iran's destabilizing activities and its pernicious influence in the Middle East," added Canadian diplomacy, which presents the sanctions as a "clear message" of the country's rejection of Tehran's actions.
