A recent computer attack registered during the past night has caused a notable increase in the temperature in the freezers and refrigeration systems of supermarkets belonging to at least three major chains in Belgium and Luxembourg.

"Delhaize, Carrefour Belgium and Spar have confirmed computer incidents in at least 60 supermarkets, according to their respective spokespersons."

"The Delhaize chain of establishments has been particularly affected upon finding that at least 40 of its stores have received the impact of these attacks, a spokesperson has informed in a statement collected by the Belgian media."

The common feature of these incidents is that the cold equipment, especially the freezers, suffered a sudden increase in temperature to around 15ºC, which caused the loss of part of the stored products.

"This situation recalls the large-scale cyberattack that affected the refrigeration systems of supermarkets in France in mid-October , although no link has yet been established with the incidents that occurred this morning in Belgium. On that occasion, around 150 stores were affected."
