The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt, Badr Abdelatty, conveyed this Monday to his Sudanese counterpart, Mohieldin Salem, Cairo’s support for the "unity and sovereignty" of Sudan, making clear its rejection of any foreign intervention in the war that has been ravaging the country since 2023.
"I spoke with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sudan about bilateral relations and the situation in the country, emphasizing Egypt's support for its unity, sovereignty and for a political solution without external interference," he said in a message released on social media about the meeting held with Salem in Cairo.
During the meeting, both officials also addressed cooperation in water resources, with special attention to the Nile River, and underscored the need to preserve their water rights and to oppose unilateral decisions in this area.
In this context, the two countries signed a memorandum of understanding on water development, "which covers the rehabilitation of facilities, flood protection and rainwater harvesting," according to the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
At the same time, the Sudanese Army has repeatedly accused the United Arab Emirates of providing armaments and direct military support to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), the paramilitary group facing the authorities in Khartoum in the civil conflict that began in April 2023 after the failure of its integration into the Armed Forces.
Since then, the Sudanese Government has continuously denounced the external backing that the RSF would receive from the Emirates and from other countries such as Chad or Kenya.
Sudan has also warned about the flow of arms and mercenaries into the country, pointing to various actors involved in these networks and assuring that the RSF are incorporating fighters from other regions of the African continent and even from Colombia and Bolivia.
