The death toll from the attack carried out this Friday against a church in the Jordanian governorate of Karak, located in the south-central part of the country, has risen to eight after one of the injured died this Saturday while being treated at the Prince Ali military hospital.
The head of the Surgery department at this center, Mahmoud Sawalqa, explained to the Ammon news agency that eight injured individuals remain hospitalized, two of them in critical condition in the intensive care unit and connected to ventilators after undergoing highly complex surgical interventions. The other six have injuries classified as mild or moderate.
At the same time, the Jordanian Armed Forces have communicated that, following the instructions of the Royal House, eight injured individuals have been transferred by helicopter to the King Hussein Medical City, while three others have been referred to a private hospital to continue their treatment.
In total, the Minister of Health, Ibrahim al Badour, specified that 27 people are still receiving medical attention in various hospitals. In addition to the eight patients at the Prince Ali hospital and the eight at the King Hussein Medical City, five remain hospitalized at the government hospital in Karak, three at Al Bashir hospitals, and another three at the Italian Hospital in Karak. All of them are stable, except for the two critical cases already mentioned.
The Health Minister emphasized that the medical and nursing teams at all the involved centers continue to provide the required assistance and closely monitor the evolution of the injured according to the protocols in force.
Regarding the investigation, the Public Security Directorate has not yet provided any confirmation about the possible arrest of the terrorist cell allegedly linked to the attack. The public broadcaster Al Mamlaka TV has indicated that the police operation continues to be deployed, awaiting the release of official data on the progress of the investigations.
Security forces maintain a broad deployment throughout the governorate of Karak, with dozens of checkpoints on the roads, although some of the roadblocks imposed on Friday have already been removed. The security perimeter around the church remains completely cordoned off while operations on the ground continue.
