The candidate of the far-right Liberal Party for the Presidency of Brazil, Flávio Bolsonaro, is shaping up to be directly elected in the first round in the elections this Sunday, having reached 50.2% of the votes, according to the official data corresponding to 47.26% of the count.
His opponent and outgoing president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, would be at 41.63% of the votes. If these figures are confirmed, Bolsonaro would be proclaimed president without the need for a second round.
The figures released come from the counting of 235,931 sections, out of a total of 499,248 contemplated by the Superior Electoral Court, the highest body responsible for the organization and supervision of the process.
Voter participation has been at 79.1%, according to the latest official bulletin, which also reports 1.75% of blank votes and 2.68% of null ballots.
