The French Executive announced this Thursday the effective start of its military support device to Saudi Arabia, aimed at addressing the attacks from the Houthi insurgency coming from Yemen.
At the end of September, President Emmanuel Macron announced the upcoming deployment of troops and military resources on Saudi territory in order to reinforce the protection of the Yanbu oil complex, a key facility for the country's crude oil exports whose importance has increased in the context of the war.
Yanbu is the main oil export terminal of the kingdom on the shores of the Red Sea and is connected to the nearby producing areas in the Gulf via the East-West pipeline, known as Petroline.
"The launch of the operation has already begun," confirmed this afternoon at a press conference the spokesperson for Foreign Affairs of the French Government, Pascal Confavreux. "The pace of the deployments and the nature of these elements will obviously fall under the responsibility of the Armed Forces," he added.
