The president of Peru, Keiko Fujimori, communicated this Thursday that she has spoken with her counterpart from Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, to advance in the beginning of the expulsions of Venezuelan citizens in irregular situations residing in Peruvian territory.
"I had a call with the president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, to address cooperation between our countries, initiate support for her Return to the Homeland plan, as well as coordinate the processes of expulsion from Peru of undocumented Venezuelan citizens," she pointed out on her social media.
The Peruvian head of state, who expressed her gratitude for Caracas' "willingness" to collaborate with this purpose, specified that the deportations will be carried out "by air, in an orderly and safe manner," according to the protocols being defined by the foreign ministries of both countries.
For her part, Rodríguez has reaffirmed her commitment to "strengthen the mechanisms that allow the safe return of our compatriots to Venezuela, through the Return to the Homeland Plan" after a phone conversation that she described as "cordial."
"I had a cordial call with the president of Peru, Keiko Fujimori, to whom I wished success in her management, for the benefit of the stability and well-being of the Peruvian people," she declared.
The executives of Venezuela and Peru communicated at the end of July their decision to resume bilateral relations, after the break that occurred two years earlier, when Lima refused to recognize the victory of President Nicolás Maduro in the presidential elections, questioned by the opposition led by Edmundo González.
According to data from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Peru is the second country in the world that hosts the most people who have left Venezuela, with more than 1.66 million registered Venezuelan refugees as of May of last year.
