The Moldovan Executive communicated this Friday that it will declare "persona non grata" a member of the Russian diplomatic corps stationed in Chisinau, which will force their departure from the country, in response to the impact of a Russian drone on Moldovan soil.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has disseminated the decision through its official accounts, explaining that the measure is adopted due to "the incident that occurred in the locality of Chistelnita, in the Telenesti district (northeast), where a drone loaded with explosives fell about 100 meters from a house".

The Foreign Affairs department has strongly condemned "the violation of airspace", after an episode that it also qualifies as "a serious violation of the sovereignty and security" of the country and "a direct threat to the security" of the Moldovan citizenry.

"This type of action is unacceptable and demonstrates, once again, the risks generated by the aggressive war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine," the Ministry has emphasized, before urging Moscow to stop "this type of actions that endanger regional security".

The statement comes after the Moldovan Ministry of Defense has alerted to an increase in this type of episodes in its airspace. Since the beginning of 2026, 65 incidents related to unauthorized incursions have been recorded, 17 of them just during the month of October.
