The Minister of Justice of Turkey, Akin Gurlek, announced this Monday that security forces have arrested more than 1,600 people in a wide-ranging nationwide operation aimed at organized crime, illegal arms trafficking, and drug trafficking.
"So far, 1,613 suspects have been detained and arrest warrants have been issued against 618 suspects. The operations involved 11,466 members of the gendarmerie and police forces," detailed a message on social media.
According to the information released, "199 firearms, 9,039 cartridges, two hand grenades, 10,520 pills and tablets of synthetic drugs or drugs, and approximately 37.25 kilograms of narcotic substances have been seized."
The minister also emphasized that "our fight against these criminal structures, which operate across a wide spectrum of crimes ranging from drug trafficking to extortion, from arms trading to money laundering and illegal betting, is not limited solely to the capture of criminals."
