The Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has instructed the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to implement the "immediate closure of the West Bank city of Hebron and the preparation for the total closure of all of the West Bank starting this Friday, after an armed attack that has left five injured and resulted in the death of the two assailants."
"I have ordered the IDF and the security forces to impose an immediate closure on the city of Hebron and to prepare for a total closure throughout Judea and Samaria --the biblical name for the West Bank that Israeli authorities use to refer to this Palestinian territory-- starting today," the Israeli leader announced in a social media post.
Netanyahu has framed this measure within the offensive against terrorism that Israeli authorities claim to be carrying out and has emphasized that they will continue to "pursue the terrorists of (the Islamic Resistance Movement) Hamas and those who send them everywhere and at all times."
"They have no place to hide," he added, stressing that Israeli forces "are operating with reinforced energies to thwart terrorism and carry out waves of mass arrests."
The statement comes after the Israeli Army shot dead two Palestinians this Friday following a shooting incident in southern West Bank, an attack that has left five injured, including two in critical condition, according to Israeli emergency services.
Regarding this incident, the Israeli Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben Gvir, has described a "difficult morning" and has stated that the "existence of a 'terrorist state' in Judea and Samaria" cannot be tolerated, while again demanding the "dismantling" of the Palestinian Authority.
