The Ministry of the Interior of Peru has reported that it is in the final phase of developing an encrypted digital platform to receive reports of extortion, with the aim of safeguarding the identity of victims and strengthening police action against organized crime.

The announcement was made by the Minister of the Interior, César Astudillo Salcedo, in a working meeting led by the Peruvian president, Keiko Fujimori, along with representatives from public transport, interprovincial, and heavy cargo unions. The meeting was held at the headquarters of the Ministry of the Interior and also included the presence of the Minister of Transport and Communications, Rafael Rey, as detailed by the Andina news agency.

Astudillo specified that the new platform will allow for the secure submission of reports and will protect the data of those affected, while also speeding up the intervention of specialized police teams. "Through this platform, the name of the complainant is encrypted and our investigative specialists begin to operate," he explained.

The head of the Interior added that his portfolio is strengthening the intelligence capabilities of the National Police of Peru (PNP) within the strategy against organized crime recently presented in Congress. Among the ongoing actions is the increase of intelligence agents in maneuvering yards, stops, and vehicles of transport companies.

During the session, the minister also emphasized the importance of coordinating the actions of all institutions responsible for the fight against crime. In this regard, he highlighted the cooperation between the PNP, the Public Ministry, and the Judiciary, and proposed the creation of integrated units to prevent those detained for serious crimes from regaining their freedom without individual responsibilities being adequately determined.

In parallel, the Ministry is promoting the expansion of video surveillance systems by connecting local government monitoring centers with the Command, Control, Computing, and Communications Center (C4) of the National Police. The goal is to strengthen both prevention and response capacity to criminal acts.

Astudillo has also urged transportation representatives to maintain constant communication with the authorities and to provide information that may be useful in the investigations. "We also need your support, to inform us with your complaint," he emphasized.

The meeting has been attended by leaders from Transportes Unidos de Lima Este, Norte y Sur; the National Corporation of Transport Companies of Peru; the National Union of Transporters of Peru; the Association of Urban Transport Companies and the Peruvian Chamber of Transport and Energy Resources. Likewise, organizations from Arequipa, Junín, Piura, La Libertad, and Áncash, among other regions, have attended.

The meeting has also served to reaffirm the Executive's willingness to maintain constant coordination with the transportation unions and to implement new measures against extortion, one of the crimes that most concerns the sector, with the aim of reinforcing the security of transporters and citizens.
