A seismic event of magnitude 5.9 on the Richter scale struck in the early hours of this Sunday, around 2:00 AM, in the Kanto region, where the Japanese capital, Tokyo, is located, without any victims or injuries reported so far.

The Japan Meteorological Agency has confirmed that no tsunami alert has been issued as a result of this tremor, whose epicenter has been located in Ibaraki Prefecture, according to the Japanese public broadcaster, NHK.

The earthquake was clearly felt in Ibaraki Prefecture and also in Saitama, Chiba, and in Tokyo itself, with a hypocenter located about 70 kilometers deep below the surface.

For its part, the Tokai 2 and Fukushima nuclear plants have reported that no irregularities have been detected in their facilities and that radiation levels remain within normal parameters.
