The Government of Spain has expressed this Friday its "strong condemnation" against the "unacceptable and indiscriminate" attacks carried out by the Houthis from Yemen against "strategic civilian infrastructure" in Saudi Arabian territory, in a context of escalation of the conflict since early September between the rebels and the internationally recognized Yemeni government backed by the coalition led by Riyadh.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation has emphasized through a statement that "The Houthi attacks against the airport of Dammam, as well as the military offensive in Yemen, and specifically in Taiz, fuel a dangerous escalation of violence in the region."
In the same note, Foreign Affairs has urged "the immediate cessation of attacks, de-escalation, and respect for International Law in accordance with the principles of the United Nations Charter," while extending its "sincere condolences" to the relatives of the victims and its "solidarity" to the population and the Government of Saudi Arabia.
The Houthis, who launched a large-scale offensive in western Yemen on September 3, have carried out multiple missile and drone attacks against Saudi Arabia, in retaliation for the support of the international coalition led by Riyadh for the military operations of the Yemeni authorities recognized by the international community.
For their part, the forces loyal to the internationally recognized Yemeni government announced on October 4 a large-scale offensive aimed at recovering the areas recently conquered by the Houthis and trying to advance towards the capital, Sana'a, controlled by the rebels since 2014.
