The European Union has demanded this Thursday that North Korea put an end to its repeated "illegal" ballistic missile launches, including the ten projectiles fired today towards the Sea of Japan, considering that they "raise tensions" throughout the area.

In a message disseminated on social media, the community foreign affairs spokesperson, Anitta Hipper, emphasized that "The continuous ballistic missile launches, including today's, again raise tensions in the region and violate multiple resolutions of the UN Security Council."

Hipper has urged Pyongyang to "cease such illegal actions," refrain "from further escalation," and respect "its international obligations," in line with United Nations resolutions.

At the same time, the Armed Forces of South Korea have indicated that the North Korean regime has launched more than a dozen short-range ballistic missiles from the province of Pyongyang, where the capital is located, towards the Sea of Japan, also referred to as the East Sea.

The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff have detailed that the detection of the missiles occurred around 5:00 PM (local time) and that the projectiles traveled approximately 300 kilometers. "We are analyzing the collected data to provide more details about their specifications," the Army added.

These firings take place in parallel to joint military exercises between South Korea and the United States, whose scope and duration were reduced by order of then U.S. President Donald Trump, with the stated aim of easing tensions and facilitating a diplomatic rapprochement with Pyongyang.
