The Special Instruction Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice of Colombia has decided to initiate a formal investigation against the senator and former presidential candidate Iván Cepeda for alleged irregularities linked to the financing of the internal primaries of his party, Pacto Histórico.
The high court is examining the origin and management of the resources used in the consultation held in October 2025, in which Cepeda was chosen as the candidate of the progressive coalition for the most recent Colombian presidential elections.
Unofficially, the Instruction Chamber has ordered the collection and practice of various pieces of evidence, as well as the summons of implicated individuals to testify, with the aim of clarifying whether possible acts of corruption related to the financing of said consultation may have occurred.
In those elections, the leftist leader Iván Cepeda ended up losing in the second round of the presidential elections, held on June 21, by a very narrow margin —49.66 to 48.7%, just over 200,000 votes— against the far-right candidate Abelardo de la Espriella.
