The president of the United States, Donald Trump, has once again attacked the electoral system of his country, which he has described as corrupt, and contrasted it with the speed of the counting of votes from 125 million people "in the first round of the presidential elections in Brazil," where the far-right Flávio Bolsonaro obtained 47% of the support and the current president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, 45%.
"125 million people voted today in the first round of the presidential elections in Brazil. The results were announced shortly after the polls closed, on the same day!", praised the occupant of the White House, a regular political rival of Lula's government and ally of the father of the winner of the first round, former president Jair Bolsonaro.
"In Detroit, Philadelphia, California, and many other cities and states in the United States, the results, with much lower (voter) numbers, usually take weeks to be 'rigged', I mean, calculated," he stated. "Elections in the United States are corrupt," he reiterated, thus maintaining his line of attacks on the American democratic system, which he often links to an alleged vote by people without U.S. nationality.
In fact, he continues to be immersed in a legal battle over the voting restrictions he has tried to implement for the elections on November 3, which the Supreme Court already rejected in mid-September.
The Republican magnate has expressed himself in these terms with less than a month to go before the midterm elections in the United States, in which Republicans and Democrats are competing for the 435 seats in the House of Representatives and nearly one-third of the 100 Senate seats, with the possibility of altering the balance of power in both chambers.
In his latest public appearances, Trump has boasted about the economic, immigration, and crime figures to bolster the first half of his term before the election date and, at the same time, has sought to mobilize the conservative electorate by promising to deliver nearly 4,300 euros to each adult in the country if the Republican Party manages to prevail.
