The Colombian Army reported this Friday the death of two alleged members of Structure 36, one of the armed and criminal factions of the dissidents of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), during a military operation carried out in a rural area of the department of Antioquia, in the northwest of the country.
The intervention was carried out by units of the Colombian Army in coordination with the Colombian Police and the Prosecutor's Office. At the scene, a rifle, a pistol, magazines, and ammunition of different calibers were seized, according to data released by the Army itself on its social media.
Preliminary information indicates that "the individuals would be part of the security commission of alias Arboleda and would be linked to threats, extortion, and coercion of the civilian population in northern Antioquia."
The president of Colombia, Abelardo de la Espriella, has praised on social media the actions of the Armed Forces, emphasizing that he continues to "hit narcoterrorism in Antioquia" as part of his instruction to "pursue without truce those who terrorize Colombians."
De la Espriella ended in August the dialogue tables promoted by former Colombian president Gustavo Petro with structures like Structure 36, considering them processes of "false peace and false dialogue," and emphasizing that "those who persist in arms and crime" will face "the full legitimate capacity of the State" and warning that he would "impose" peace with the "legitimate force of arms and the laws of the Republic."
