The Labor Inspection activities have brought to light 43,644 irregularities related to the hiring of foreign individuals between 2023 and 2025, which have resulted in sanctions amounting to over 425 million euros, according to official government data included in a parliamentary response.
In that response, which Europa Press has accessed, the Executive specifies that the total number of inspection actions against the irregular economy linked to the employment of foreigners in the period 2023-2025 was 57,794. In 75% of those interventions (43,644), some type of infringement was confirmed, with proposed sanctions amounting to 425,588,999 euros.
These figures are provided in response to a series of questions registered by the PP regarding this issue. The party led by Alberto Núñez Feijóo warned that the potential existence of thousands of undeclared foreign jobs "forces an evaluation of whether the current human, material, and technological resources are sufficient to detect and correct these situations."
In this context, the PP demanded from the Government the details of the inspection actions carried out in 2023, 2024, and 2025 specifically aimed at uncovering irregular employment of foreign workers, as well as the number of infringements, sanctions, official registrations in Social Security, and settlements of contributions resulting from those actions.
In its response, the Government provides the mentioned figures and emphasizes that the Labor and Social Security Inspection periodically develops planned actions throughout the national territory, adjusted in number and schedule to the reality of each province and without being limited to a specific area.
The Executive also refers to the attention by the Labor and Social Security Inspection to "all complaints that are presented for that purpose." To facilitate that workers can resort to this mechanism, the parliamentary response highlights that there are complaint forms available in several languages, accessible to any complainant both at the physical offices of the Labor Inspection and through the Internet.
Increase in personnel in the Labor Inspection
In another parliamentary response related to this area, the Government details that the staff of the Labor and Social Security Inspection system has grown by 28.74% between 2018 and 2025, rising from 1,740 to 2,240 inspectors.
The document explains that this reinforcement of personnel with inspection competencies is mainly due to the expansion of the public employment offer in recent years, both for the body of labor and social security inspectors and for the body of labor sub-inspectors.
Finally, the Executive specifies that the number of foreign workers who have accessed protection or regularization mechanisms linked to irregular employment situations in the period 2023-2025 amounts to 948 people.
