More than 2,000 people have supported this Sunday the president of the Government and PSOE candidate for reelection, Pedro Sánchez, in the second event of the pre-campaign for the general elections on November 29, held at the Térmica Cultural in Ponferrada (León).

From early in the morning, numerous militants and supporters have lined up to access the Turbinas Room, which has reached full capacity. Due to the impossibility of everyone entering, screens have been installed in other areas of the venue and speakers have been placed outside. At least 2,000 attendees have followed the rally inside the building and more than 1,000 have done so from outside.

Before the start of the event, the group Los Flekiss has played music to liven up the wait until the arrival of Pedro Sánchez, scheduled for 12:00 hours. Minutes earlier, the entrance of the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, was met with a great ovation. Subsequently, a video was projected with images of opposition members that provoked boos from those present.

As a novel element in this rally, Pedro Sánchez has positioned himself behind the stage, sitting in the stands next to the young attendees. In the front row were the Secretary of Organization of PSCyL, Daniel de la Rosa; Óscar Puente; the Minister of Equality, Ana Redondo; the president of the group of Socialists and Democrats (S&D) and leader of PSOE in the European Parliament, Iratxe García; the Government delegate in Castilla y León, Nicanor Sen; the president of the Provincial Council of León, Gerardo Álvarez Courel, and the president of the Bierzo Regional Council, Olegario Ramón, among other socialist officials.

The opening of the event was led by the provincial secretary of PSOE in León, Javier Cendón, who introduced the deputy secretary of PSCyL, Nuria Rubio. Afterwards, the secretary general of PSCyL, Calos Martínez, intervened and, finally, Pedro Sánchez took the floor.

Sánchez began his speech around 12:30 hours, received by the shouts of "president, president," which were repeated at various moments of his speech, for example when he addressed the housing section and remembered Maricarmen.

PRESENCE IN THE BERCIANA REGION

This is the second visit of the president of the Government to El Bierzo in 2026. The previous one was last February, also in the region, at a campaign event for the regional elections in which he supported the socialist candidate, Carlos Martínez.

In 2025, Pedro Sánchez visited the Bercian territory several times, largely motivated by the impact of the wildfires that ravaged the province of León during the summer, affecting ten percent of its surface and emblematic sites such as Las Médulas, recognized as World Heritage by UNESCO.

The candidate for reelection concluded his speech around 1:00 PM, thus closing the second event of the electoral pre-campaign, which had started yesterday in Dos Hermanas (Sevilla).
