Frente Amplio has put on the table tonight, just two hours before the deadline to register coalitions expires, a proposal for a global agreement for the general elections on November 29 that reserves "priority" starting positions for the purples in Madrid and Catalonia.
According to that document, which Europa Press has accessed, Frente Amplio also proposes the integration of Podemos "with all rights" in all the constituencies where this platform competes, including Andalusia.
Furthermore, it specifies in the alliances chapter that this incorporation would extend to the candidacies of Aragón and Baleares, led by Chunta Aragonesista and Ara Més, respectively. In these three autonomous communities, the organization led by Ione Belarra is not part of the coalition agreements for now.
Thus, Frente Amplio's 'in extremis' offer to Podemos would imply a state-level understanding that would encompass Madrid and Barcelona, the two constituencies that the purple formation intended to keep separate from the rest, even considering running with their own lists as they believe that electoral fragmentation penalizes them less.
In the Catalan case, the proposal would also imply that the 'purples' would have to reverse their pact with ERC, already ratified by their bases in an express consultation and which reserves them positions 6 and 10 for Barcelona as independents on the republican list, in addition to sharing a campaign with the head of the list of this formation, Gabriel Rufián.
At the same time, the space promoted by Comuns, IU, Movimiento Sumar, and Más Madrid guarantees Podemos the possibility of designating one of the spokespersons (without clarifying whether it will be the main or deputy) of the future parliamentary group that will be formed from the joint candidacy.
Likewise, it commits to an "equitable" distribution of resources among all the forces that make up Frente Amplio. The invitation to the agreement also details that they will agree with Podemos on an electoral program based on "the defense of the right to housing, public services, wage increases, equality, LGTBI+ rights, or the energy transition, among other areas of transformation."
A last attempt after several failed contacts
"If necessary, we are even willing to go further. There is time for the agreement tonight," they have pointed out from Frente Amplio, emphasizing that they are launching this "concrete and real" proposal after "many attempts to open a frank and sincere dialogue with Podemos" with approaches that "allow responding to the expectations" of the purple formation.
"We want to emphasize that the unity of the transformative left throughout Spain is a widespread demand from the citizenry and social movements across the country. This is the reason why we are making a final call with the aim of overcoming distances and generating the enthusiasm for unity," they have proclaimed from the new space that groups the minority parties of the Executive.
