The president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, assured this Saturday that, if he manages to form a Government after the general elections on the next November 29, he will promote in Spain a "serene, but forceful change," that will lead the country "with the truth ahead" and that will "never" leave "citizens stranded" when difficulties arise, as he believes the head of the Executive, Pedro Sánchez, has done.
These statements were made at his first major campaign event, held at the Ifema fairgrounds in Madrid, a meeting of the Popular Party marked by the slogan "Finally" with which the popular have wanted to stage their satisfaction for the electoral advance.
During his speech, Feijóo claimed his three decades of experience in administration. "I do not come from saunas or sewers, I come from management, from presenting and balancing budgets, from sustaining public services, from facing the good times and especially the difficult ones," he emphasized, defending his experience at the helm of various public responsibilities.
In this line, he stressed that he knows "what it is to govern and what it costs," that he is fully aware of what the citizens expect from him and that he will work to meet those expectations. To this end, he announced that he will call on Spaniards to join a project of "national reconstruction" aimed at that "serene, but forceful change."
Institutional claim and support from regional barons
"Spain needs to open a new time and we are going to open it. We are going to rebuild our institutions so that no one thinks again that power is above the rules. No one and neither us. Let it be clear, power is not above the rules in any democracy, regardless of who it affects," proclaimed the leader of the PP, emphasizing his commitment to respect the legal framework and institutional functioning.
Among those who attended the event were, in addition to the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, and the mayor of the capital, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, the president of the Senate, Pedro Rollán, former government presidents José María Aznar and Mariano Rajoy, as well as the regional presidents of Aragón, Jorge Azcón; Galicia, Alfonso Rueda; Extremadura, María Guardiola; Murcia, Fernando López Miras, and the Community of Valencia, Juanfran Pérez Llorca, thus supporting Feijóo's debut in this pre-campaign.
