Pedro Sánchez has requested to appear before the Plenary of Congress to report on the Government's management in the migratory crisis of Ceuta. According to El País, the request has already been registered, after the Minister of Territorial Policy, Ángel Víctor Torres, announced minutes earlier on Cadena SER that the Executive was going to request that appearance.
The request also comes on the same day that the Permanent Deputation of Congress faces the debate and voting of the initiative registered by the PP for Sánchez to be urgently summoned to an extraordinary Plenary with the aim of providing explanations about the situation in Ceuta.
The PP maintains its initiative to summon Sánchez
In its request, the PP demands the immediate appearance of the president to inform about the situation arising from the increase in the entries of immigrants by sea from Morocco, the measures to guarantee the integrity of the Spanish and European Union borders, and the Government's cooperation policy with Morocco in the area of migratory control.
The initiative of the 'popular' will be debated and voted on this Wednesday in the Permanent Deputation. To move forward, it needs to obtain the support or, at least, the abstention of two of the usual parliamentary partners of the Executive. If it succeeds, the Table would have to set a date for the extraordinary Plenary before September 1, when the ordinary session period officially resumes.
Other ten ministers in the PP's request
In addition to Sánchez, the PP intends for ten other members of the Government to be urgently summoned. Among them are the Ministers of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska; Defense, Margarita Robles; Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares; Migrations, Elma Saiz; Health, Mónica García; Youth and Childhood, Sira Rego; and Equality, Ana Redondo.
These ministers already had appearances scheduled in the coming days at the request of the Government itself, which registered those requests after the demands made by the opposition. The scheduling of those sessions was the argument used by the Executive to reject the appearances that the PP tried to promote in the Senate.
The appearance in Congress of the Minister of the Presidency and Justice, Félix Bolaños, is also scheduled for this Thursday. The PP wants to ask him about the replacement of a civil servant from the National Security Department of the Presidency of the Government who disseminated on the agency's website data about the massive entry of immigrants before the Executive made its own official records public.
