The co-coordinator of Movimiento Sumar, Verónica Martínez Barbero, has defended that the candidacy of Frente Amplio be led by the former mayor of Barcelona Ada Colau and by the deputy spokesperson of Más Madrid in the Assembly, Emilio Delgado, although she has made it clear that her goal is to continue adding other political forces.
"We are clear about it: Ada Colau and Emilio Delgado and alliances with anyone who wants to come," Barbero has pointed out on the social network 'Bluesky', making evident her organization's commitment to this tandem and to a strategy of broad agreements.
In that same message, Barbero insisted that "generosity and responsibility are demonstrated by doing," without "noise" and with an announcement "as soon as possible." "Our people are waiting for us," she emphasized, demanding quick and discreet decisions to finalize the electoral proposal.
Frente Amplio is facing this week the key week to register the electoral coalitions, still without having officially designated its candidate for the Presidency of the Government and without having closed agreements with the rest of the formations, especially with the uncertainty of whether there is room for Podemos to integrate into the candidacy.
So far, Movimiento Sumar decided last Friday to position Verónica Martínez Barbero as its main electoral reference to join the future lists of Frente Amplio, and asked its partners that the negotiations regarding the candidacy be carried out with "discretion and generosity."
In parallel, Más Madrid has proposed that its deputy spokesperson in the Assembly, Emilio Delgado, lead the list for Madrid, while Izquierda Unida has expressed its support for Ada Colau to be the figure who leads the candidacy at the state level.
On the other hand, the spokesperson for ERC in Congress, Gabriel Rufián, has been confirmed as the candidate of Esquerra Republicana, thus rejecting the proposal for him to act as a link between the different leftist forces. At the same time, ERC is finalizing a collaboration agreement with Podemos for the general elections.
