The Secretary of Organization of the PSOE, Rebeca Torró, has urged the president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, to take "responsibility" to "stop" the escalation of violence in the attacks against migrant people who remain in Ceuta after their arrival at the end of July from the border with Morocco.
The 'number three' of the PSOE has warned the 'popular' that "normality cannot be requested for Ceuta while coexistence is inflamed with lies and xenophobic messages." Likewise, she has alerted that "the hate speeches of political leaders in 'prime time' give wings and legitimize violence," according to what she wrote in a message on 'X', collected by Europa Press, in which she does not explicitly mention any specific political responsible.
In this context, the socialist leader has insisted that the PP "must stop this spiral" of violence in the autonomous city. "I ask Mr. Feijóo for responsibility," Torró concluded.
The situation in Ceuta has tense in recent days, almost a month after the massive entry of about 80,000 people into the city. This Thursday, the Police had to intervene in the incidents recorded on the beach of Benítez in Ceuta, after a group of people destroyed and set fire to the belongings of the migrants who sleep there. In addition, twelve Moroccan citizens were arrested after assaulting four soldiers, who were injured, in the Benzú neighborhood. Attacks on journalists have also been reported, and the Red Cross has been prevented from deploying its humanitarian aid.
PP and Vox, in the spotlight for their speeches
In an interview on 'RNE', the spokesperson for the federal Executive of the PSOE, Montse Mínguez, who has called for calm to preserve public order, has warned that the interventions of the PP and Vox "do not help at all" to the situation in Ceuta.
"What they do is ignite even more uncertainty. They spend the day stirring with these fear speeches and this is not what Ceuta needs," she emphasized, demanding that the crisis be faced with "seriousness."
On the other hand, the Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Ángel Víctor Torres, has condemned all episodes of violence recorded in recent days in the autonomous city and has demanded that the PP reject them with the same "firmness" and not "with a small mouth."
Torres has also attacked the parliamentary spokesperson of the 'populars', Ester Muñoz, for being "justifying", in his view, that they "attack the citizens in Ceuta" and "burn the booths" of the immigrants on the beaches, as happened this Thursday afternoon. The leader of the PP, in previous statements from Bilbao regarding this latest event, blamed the Government for its "neglect of duties" that had caused "many desperate people to want to impose order".
"What is she justifying? That they attack citizens of Ceuta? Justifying that the booths are burned? That is being justified by Ester Muñoz," Torres stated in an interview on 'TVE', reported by Europa Press.
The minister made a "responsible call for non-violence" this Friday, condemning both the assaults on military personnel by immigrants and the burning of booths, the impediments to the Red Cross to distribute food, and the attacks on journalists "who are doing their job".
"That leads nowhere, and, therefore, what do we have to do? Normalize the situation. For that, it is essential that we make a responsible, serious, and forceful call for no to violence," he defended. At the same time, he recalled that demonstrations "are regulated" in the Spanish Constitution, but "they cannot be outbreaks of xenophobia, nor of violence against the Security Forces and Corps and public servants".
