The Secretary of State of the United States, Marco Rubio, has asked Spain "to take significant measures" in order "to maintain strong and secure borders," "to combat mass migration," and "to increase investment in the defense capabilities necessary to strengthen European security."
In a message broadcast this Monday to congratulate "Spain and its citizens" on the "National Day," Rubio took the opportunity to emphasize the relevance of "advancing on the essential priorities for the security and prosperity of both nations."
Furthermore, he highlighted that the U.S. commemorates this year its 250th anniversary, an occasion he used to value "the support that Spain provided during our struggle for freedom in the American Revolution" and "the deep economic ties and cultural values that we share today."
"On this very special day, I wish the Spanish people a happy celebration and a prosperous coming year," concludes the statement.
