The second vice president and minister of Labor, Yolanda Díaz, has conveyed a message of affection to the family and friends of the member of the Military Emergency Unit (UME) who lost his life this Sunday in an accident while participating in the operation against the forest fire in Las Peñas de Riglos (Huesca).
"I want to send all my love to the family, friends, and colleagues of the UME soldier who died while fighting the fire in Riglos and also wish for the swift recovery of his two companions," she wrote on 'Bluesky', the also leader of Sumar.
In the same line as Díaz, the federal coordinator of Izquierda Unida, Antonio Maíllo, has publicly shown his support for the relatives of the soldier who died "in the line of duty" and expressed his wish for a quick recovery for the injured. "The fires claim another life. A new tragedy," he lamented on his 'X' account.
One deceased and three injured soldiers in the operation
A soldier from the UME died this Sunday, August 16, and three others were injured after a traffic accident recorded in the Barranco de Atarés, near Monte Oroel, an area where the firefighting efforts for the forest fire in Las Peñas de Riglos have been concentrated throughout the day.
The president of the Government of Aragón, Jorge Azcón, has indicated that one of the fire trucks involved in the fight against the fire had an accident, although he emphasized that it will be the Civil Guard that provides more detailed information about what happened.
According to sources from the regional government, one of the injured has been evacuated to the Miguel Servet Hospital, where he remains "stable and out of danger." The other two injured soldiers are hospitalized in the Jaca Hospital with minor injuries.
