The Conselleira do Mar, Marta Villaverde, held a meeting in Brussels with the Galician representatives who head the main Advisory Councils of the European Union: Sergio López (South Western Waters, CCS), Iván López van der Veen (Long-Distance Fleet, LDAC) and Yobana Bermúdez (Markets, MAC). The meeting was also joined by the president of the National Federation of Fishermen's Guilds, Basilio Otero, on behalf of the artisanal sector.

The meeting aimed to review the work underway and coordinate strategies to strengthen Galicia's weight in community decision-making on the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP), with a view to safeguarding its influence in European forums.

At the meeting, issues considered "urgent and cross-cutting" for the entire Galician sea-industry chain were analyzed, including the need to promote generational renewal "improving the socio-labor conditions and habitability of the fleet without this counting as an increase in fishing capacity under European regulations, as well as demanding a strict principle of reciprocity in the face of imports from third countries to avoid unfair competition and strengthen the fight against illegal fishing".

The parties present agreed to maintain a stable channel of technical coordination that will allow the opinions and recommendations sent to the European Commission to protect "firmly" the leadership, sustainability and economic viability of Galicia's maritime-fishing fabric.
