The deputy first secretary and spokesperson for the PSC, Lluïsa Moret, has maintained that the president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, "not only does not understand Catalonia, but uses it as an instrument of electoral confrontation".

Moret spoke this way at a press conference this Monday at the PSC headquarters, where she responded to Feijóo's remarks in an interview with "La Vanguardia", in which he stated that "a prime minister cannot be one without understanding, without knowing how to interpret, and without having explicit commitments with Catalonia".

As a result of these words, the socialist leader has predicted that "Feijóo will never be president of Spain because he has been absolutely insensitive to the reality and to the characteristics, the specificities and the singularities of Catalonia".

She also reproached the PP for its systematic rejection of "all those resolutions, decisions and legislative instruments that came to improve and recover coexistence and the climate of respect for diversity", citing as examples the amnesty, funding or the use of Catalan in Europe.

"Not worthy" of representing the Catalans

The socialist spokesperson has also accused the PP of having turned its back on Catalonia and has added: "The latest episode is the fact of renouncing its Senate lists in specific districts such as Girona and Tarragona, ceding this representation in the Senate to Vox, a party that has clear within its electoral program to go against our self-government".

According to Moret, "always the PP and Mr. Feijóo at the head have instrumentalized Catalonia and have used confrontation with Catalonia as an electoral and electioneering tool, and he continues doing it. Therefore, it is not worthy of representing the Catalans".

Controversy over the debate on RTVE

In relation to the PP's criticism over the postponement of the electoral debate of the lead candidates for Barcelona on TVE, scheduled for this Monday and postponed because of the train accident in Urda (Toledo), Moret has stressed that the PSC and its candidate, the minister Jordi Hereu, will adapt to the new schedule and "what Spanish Television says".

Regarding the complaints of the popular Xavier García Albiol, she emphasized: "We already know Mr. Albiol's style, he really likes 'performances' and exaltations and to blow up any issue. I think Spanish Television has other priorities than to harm Mr. Albiol", she concluded.
