The councilor of Rural Environment, María José Gómez, has highlighted the "quality and recognition" of the wines protected by the Denomination of Origin Ribeira Sacra during a visit to the Don Bernandiño winery.
According to the regional government in a press release, the head of Rural Environment emphasized the "quality and international recognition" of the wines from this D.O, which have just obtained 18 gold medals in the latest edition of the Mondial de Vins Extrêmes 2026.
Gómez made these statements this Friday at the Don Bernardino winery, in the municipality of Sober in Lugo, which was awarded two prizes. Specifically, it achieved the Grand Gold Medal for its Mencía de Amandi 2025 and another gold medal for its Cuarta Xeración de 2022.
The councilor stressed that the quality and the close link with the territory are defining traits of Galician wine production and, especially, of Ribeira Sacra, and recalled the "commitment" of the Xunta to this sector.
In this line, she explained that the Galician Executive has a specific aid line aimed at preserving the landscape and combating erosion in the vineyards of Ribeira Sacra. The last call was resolved with a budget of 1.5 million euros, which allowed support for 700 beneficiary people.
