The spokesperson in the Cortes of Aragón of Aragón-Teruel Existe, Tomás Guitarte, has conveyed this Monday to the president of the regional Parliament, María Navarro, his proposal to launch study or research commissions on the forest fires of the summer that is concluding and, likewise, on the data centers that are being installed in the community.
In a press conference, he emphasized that, among the priorities of the next session period, are the approval of the budgets of the Autonomous Community for 2027 and the housing law.
He pointed out that both issues "are matters that concern the entire Aragonese citizenry significantly and we should be able, also, to do it --the Commissions-- in parallel to the processing of the budgets and the housing law".
Open Parliament and citizen participation
Guitarte has reiterated that "the institutional role of the Cortes cannot be surpassed by the political confrontation that leads, by decision of the majority groups, to the polarization of the debate" because "that is not the mission of the Cortes", but rather "the citizens want work to be done here, proposals to be made here, legislation to be enacted and not for this to end up being a bit more like a set of a television talk show where no real issues are delved into".
In this line, he has defended "moving towards an open Parliament, that citizen participation be one of the characteristics of the Cortes of Aragón".
Function of promoting and controlling the Government
On the other hand, he has assured that A-TE will focus its work on proposing alternatives and not limiting itself to criticism, trying "to ensure that this Parliament addresses the issues that truly concern the Aragonese".
Tomás Guitarte has expressed his "concern about the political drift" of the current legislature, "which translates into the breaking of consensuses and ways of functioning that we had been working with for 40 years".
He referred to the controversies over the times of intervention and the role of minority groups, as well as to the resources they have to carry out their task of promoting and controlling the Executive, considering that "a tradition had been broken".
In his opinion, "we believe that a fundamental error is being committed", since "democracy is not the law of the strongest, but is characterized, precisely, by giving time and capacity for participation to minority groups".
Likewise, he has referred to "the paradox of self-questions" formulated by the groups that support the Government in the plenary control sessions, something that, in Guitarte's opinion, constitutes "covert advertising of the Government's action."
