The parliamentary group of the PSOE in the Cortes of Aragón has registered with the Table of the Chamber a formal request for the legal services to prepare a report on the intervention made this Thursday by the president, María Navarro, during the plenary session.

In a press conference, the deputy spokesperson of the PSOE, Jesús Morales, indicated that Navarro's action "raises serious doubts from the regulatory point of view and the respect for the institutional neutrality that must be upheld by the one who presides over the Cortes."

Morales recalled that the socialist spokesperson, Pilar Alegría, had previously proposed to hold a minute of silence at the beginning of the Plenary in memory of Maricarmen Abascal, who passed away this Wednesday in a hospital in Madrid after being evicted from her home.

As he explained, the Board of Spokespersons met before the session began to evaluate this initiative, which did not go ahead due to the opposition of PP and Vox. Already during the plenary debate, in the appearance of the president of the Executive, Jorge Azcón, on housing policy, the spokesperson of CHA, Jorge Pueyo, took the floor, who "in the use of his time decided to maintain that minute of silence" and, at that moment, the president of the Cortes "interrupted the intervention of that deputy to read a text of her own, something unprecedented," Morales recounted.

The socialist deputy emphasized that said text "had not been either agreed upon or negotiated" in the Board of Spokespersons and warned that "the president cannot confuse the institution with her personal opinion" because "representing the chamber does not mean speaking on behalf of all." He added that "several spokespersons had expressed their opposition to the reading of that text."

Morales specified that the debate does not revolve around whether the PSOE agreed or not with the content of the document, but that "the problem was that this text had not been approved" by the Board of Spokespersons, "the ordinary channels had not been followed and the document was not available for analysis," so, in his opinion, María Navarro "made her own rules, something that cannot be tolerated."

The deputy spokesperson of the PSOE has urged the president "to read the Regulations of the Cortes," whose article 275 regulates institutional statements and establishes that they must have the unanimity of all parliamentary groups to be qualified.
