The candidate for the Presidency of the Junta, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, has lashed out in his investiture speech against "ideological indoctrination" in classrooms, which he attributes to the policies of the current Government of Spain. In contrast, he has vindicated the educational system of Castilla y León, which he has described as a project "oriented towards excellence, a generator of opportunities" and "based on merit, effort, and ability".
Before the Plenary of the Courts, Fernández Mañueco has underlined that education in the Community is adapted to the needs of each student, both in cities and in towns. In this regard, he has reiterated that "the gratuity of school education from 0 to 16 years, freedom in the choice of schools, and the inalienable right of parents to decide their children's education" will be strictly guaranteed.
The regional leader has also announced that, together with the provincial councils, the Junta will increase the resources allocated to support and modernize rural schools. Likewise, he has reaffirmed that the regional administration will keep operational those educational centers that have at least three enrolled students.
Fernández Mañueco has stressed that his future Executive will prioritize the reinforcement of teachers in rural areas, even when enrollment is low, as well as all measures aimed at guaranteeing digitalization, connectivity, and the improvement of school transport in these territories. In this sense, he has announced the commitment to complete the digitalization and internet connection of all classrooms in the autonomous community by the year 2026.
To conclude, the candidate has expressed his cabinet's willingness to continue promoting "good school coexistence" and has confirmed that the history of terrorism will be maintained within the Community's study plans with the aim of "raising awareness" among students and "dignifying victims".
